This is My Year: Stretch for It

Isaiah 54:1-3 “Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child; break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed; for the sons of the desolate one will be more numerous than the sons of the married woman,” says the LORD. “Enlarge the place of your tent; stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; Lengthen your cords and strengthen your pegs. “For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations and will resettle the desolate cities.

God promises fruitfulness where there was barrenness, joy where there was sorrow and victory where there was defeat! We have to structure our worlds to accommodate the expectation of God's fulfillment of that promise.

But all progress requires stretching. Change is the constant companion of progress. We can’t keep doing the same things we’ve been doing and expect a different result. We have to stretch in order to grow.

Growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. Growth happens in the stretch zone

Here are seven practical ideas that will help you stretch.

1. Elevate your thinking

The thinking that created the life you have now is not going to be enough to change your life into what you want it to be.

Everything changes when you realize God is a God of abundance, that God is for you and that you don’t need to earn God’s approval.

2. Try something new

Maybe the reason our lives are boring is because we are boring. When was the last time you did anything for the first time?

Go on a mission trip. Get involved in a ministry. Build a new business. Try a new exercise program. Tackle a new project.

Goals have a value because of the person you have to become to reach the goal. Goals cause you to reach inside and find something you did not know you had in you.

3. Break free from generational curses and limitations

Love and honor your family but don’t let them set the borders of your life. Only God has that privilege.

4. Make a plan and set a schedule

If you don't plan and schedule your life, someone else will.

5. Improve your associations

You will become like the people you spend the most time with. Hang out with people who are headed where you want to go.

6. Dream big, start small, act now

Take the first step out of your comfort zone. Start small and don’t try to run a marathon if you have never run before. Act now - it’s too easy to postpone action until everything settles down. Do something today.

7. Embrace the God who is for you

Jesus Christ changed my life. Jesus can change your life. This isn’t self-help, it’s God’s help to live your ultimate, best life.

God has a bigger, better life in His heart for you – and you can start it now!
